As a former recruiter for Yale University, I remember the reactions from admissions officers as they read one essay versus another. I would say that there are six mistakes that are the most common and potentially the most deadly to college applicants submitting their college admission essays. One mistake in some college admission essays is: not writing from the heart.

Professors - Use Timers in the Classroom (For Your Students and For Yourself) - Increase Focus

When you teach in the college classroom, it’s hard to keep track of the time. This is true during lecture, Q & A portions, learning activities with your students, student presentations, and yes…even breaks during long classes. I got started using timers when I was still a professor. Since nearly all my classes were 3 hours long, we always had a break mid-way through the session. It was easy for me to lose track of time because I was talking with students or answer questions from individuals. Here are ideas that you can apply to try out using timers in your college classroom.
